Eight grader Kyra Bowens is our student spotlight. Kyra has been a part of 4H for the past 5 years. This year she competed at the Southwest Fair and took 4th for showmanship, and both cows placed 1st in their age group. The dairy heifer was auctioned for about $4000.
Kyra also competed at the State Fair and took 1st place in judging and her cow placed 1st in her age group. Once she is 16 years old she is on the path to being on a judging team.
Judging is where a certain age group of cows is brought out and then the competitors are required to rank the cows and explain their ranking decisions. This takes a keen eye and strong public speaking skills.
